How to set up discount codes within Avelon

Here’s how to set up discount codes for affiliates in a variety of ways. Please be aware that the discount code you are assigning to an affiliate must be valid on your eCommerce platform. If it is not valid, we cannot track the discount code.

We accept a variety of discount code offerings on the system. The most popular is total % off the total order, but we also accept a flat rate such as £10.00 off an order and also promo codes that provide free shipping or free products.

1. At the invite stage

You can assign a discount code to an affiliate when you send an invite. This keeps the discount code in ‘limbo’ until the affiliate accepts or denies the invite. If the affiliate accepts the invite, we will assign that discount code to the affiliate. If the affiliate denies the invite, we will delete the discount code from the system.

  1. Go to the affiliates profile
  2. Click Invite > Add the discount code
  3. Press Send
The affiliate will receive an email inviting them to your program, alongside the discount code you have offered them.

2. When they're already in your program

Assigning a discount code when an affiliate is already in your program takes just a few clicks. Please be aware that the affiliate must be inside your program (accepted) to assign a discount code in this way.

  1. Click My Affiliates > Affiliate promo codes
  2. Click Add promo code
  3. Select the affiliate from the dropdown menu
  4. Enter the discount code as it is shown on your eCommerce platform
  5. Enter the discount code amount / the amount it offers the consumer
  6. Enter any notes you’d like to provide the affiliate about the discount code

Can I assign the same discount code to every affiliate?

Whilst you can assign the same discount code to every affiliate, it’s not recommended. We recommend making each discount code individual to each affiliate. If you assign the same discount code to every affiliate, they will all be attributed a sale every single time that discount code is used and they will have the total commission split between them.

An example of this; you’re working with an affiliate called Kellie and an affiliate called Dean. You create a discount code for Kellie called KELLIE20 and a discount code for Dean called DEAN20. You assign each discount code individually to each affiliate.

Generic affiliate codes are not recommended, i.e AVELON20. Please make them specific to the affiliate.

Can an affiliate use a discount code instead of a link?

Yes, an affiliate can solely use a discount code instead of a link if they wish. Avelon tracks a combination of links, discount codes or a mixture of the two. If you provide a discount code to the affiliate and the affiliate does not use a link, then we cannot track any link clicks or drop any cookies – we can only track sales that occur off the back of discount codes being used.

As discount codes are assigned to affiliates, whenever the assigned discount code is used, the affiliate will be attributed a sale. For optimal tracking, we highly recommend a mixture of a link and a discount code – that way the affiliate will be attributed a sale when a user comes back to your site and the user also gets a discount code.
