Brand onboarding guide

Just joined Avelon as a Brand/Retailer/Merchant? This quick-start onboarding guide will ensure you’re set up for success. Underneath each section is a link to the section in more detail.

The above video is a guide on how to use the platform by our founder, Andrew.

1. Set up your subscription

To access Avelon and start working with affiliates, you need to set up your subscription. You will receive a link to the Avelon Billing Hub inside your Onboarding email. Please follow the instructions to set up your payment profile.

If you do not set up your subscription, your account will remain limited – with restricted access.

You must be the primary email address on the account to set up billing. If you require another user to be the primary billing email address, please let your Account Manager know.

2. Integrate your website

Integrating your website is the most important step in the entire process. Without integration, we cannot track clicks, sales, commissions or attribute any sales to affiliates – and your account will remain restricted.

We have a wide range of plug-ins available for all eCommerce platforms, but if there is no integration available, we have custom integration docs that any developer can implement.

3. Sign into your Account

Once you have set up your subscription, your account will become available to log in to.

To sign into your account, just click Sign in on the top right hand corner of the Avelon website. If it’s the first time you’ve signed in, you’ll need to reset your password via the password reset link.

If your email has not been added to the Account, or you are a secondary user on the account, you’ll need to request access through your Account Manager.

4. Set up your product feed

Affiliate product feeds are the lifeblood of affiliate platforms. These feeds are based on the same data fields required within Google Shopping feeds, but the affiliate platform replaces the URL with an affiliate tracking link.

These affiliate product feeds allow us to place links within relevant articles automatically, meaning you can get your product link placed on a review without ever having to lift a finger.

5. Invite affiliates to your program

To invite affiliates to your program, start by going to Affiliates. From there, you can search for affiliates which match your requirements with our range of filters. You can search based on category, sub-category, social media statistics and much more.

Once you have found an affiliate you like, invite them to your program by clicking Invite and setting out the rules of your agreement. You will be prompted to set a welcome message, the commission amount, a discount code and the discount code amount.

Please be aware that the discount code you are assigning to the affiliate must be set up on your eCommerce platform. Avelon does not generate your discount code for you.

6. Accept affiliate applications

Affiliates have access to a separate version of the platform which shows the number of Opportunities they have available to them. Affiliates can apply to be part of these programs in the same way you can invite an affiliate to join your program. When affiliates apply, you’ll need to Approve or Deny their request.

To Approve or Deny an application, first go to My Affiliates > Applications.

When you approve an application, the system automatically generates an affiliate tracking link and assigns it to the affiliate.

You will also get a prompt to assign them a discount code. If you assign them a discount code, please ensure the code is valid and is specific to that affiliate. For example, a discount code for an affiliate called Kellie would be something like Kellie20. We don’t recommend multiple affiliates sharing a discount code, as the system will assign parts of the commission to each affiliate.

7. Assign promo codes

Avelon works on an ‘assignment’ basis for promo codes, meaning you must assign the promo code to the affiliate for us to attribute the sale to that affiliate. Please be aware that as of November 2024, this process has changed slightly and the below video is out of date.

When accepting an affiliate application

When you accept an affiliate application, a pop-up will appear which gives you the choice to add a promo code for the affiliate. If you’d like to add a promo code at this stage, it will assign to the affiliate and the affiliate will be notified.

When inviting an affiliate

When you invite an affiliate to your program, you have the option to also assign them a promo code. This promo code will remain ‘in limbo’ until the affiliate accepts your application – but the promo code must be valid on your eCommerce platform.

After an affiliate is added to your program

  1. Go to My Affiliates > Promo codes
  2. Click Add promo code
  3. Select the affiliate you want to assign the promo code to
  4. Enter the discount code
  5. Enter the discount code amount / how much the discount code offers the consumer
  6. Add any notes about the discount code

8. Creating Smart Referral Pages

Smart Referral Pages are a unique way for you to eliminate coupon code leaks and track exactly where sales are coming from. To set up a Smart Referral Page, you’ll need to assign a promo code to an affiliate and then assign the promo code to a link:

  1. Go to My Links
  2. Find the link you want to turn into a Smart Referral Page
  3. Click the dropdown box and select the promo code
Once you have assigned the promo code to the link, it will automatically turn into a Smart Referral Page.

9. Your Dashboard & reporting structures

Your Dashboard is where all your clicks, sales and data flows into. It’s designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of where traffic and sales are coming from.

Dashboard

The Dashboard is the simplified view of everything. Clicks, sales, products sold, conversion rates. It’s all there. You can even filter by specific affiliates and tags to see what’s working for you.

Links

Links is where all your generated links are stored. These links combine automated links, links created by you, links created by affiliates and product feed links.

Click Inspector

Click Inspector is a deep-dive of where your traffic is coming from and whether they turned into sales or not.

Sales Explorer

Sales Explorer is the most in-depth reporting structure within Avelon. You can view all the insights and data we have on a sale, who drove the sale, where the user came from, how much it cost to make the sale and an array of useful data.
