Avelon uses click deduplication to stop the same user being reported multiple times within a 24-hour time frame. This means if a user clicks the same link multiple times within a 24-hour period, then a click will only be registered once.
A first-party cookie will still be placed on that users browser, but multiple clicks will not be registered in the dashboard.
There are other reasons for this, including:
The most common link click differences are found in other attribution tools such as Google Analytics / GA4 (which has its own fundamental issues to tracking users) and Instagram’s external link tool.
We’ll outline the issues with each tracking tool below:
Google Analytics / GA4: Only reports on users when they agree to the cookie consent tool, so your clicks will only be counted inside GA4 if they consent. Avelon uses a redirect / ping to our server to count clicks – so whilst the user can reject cookies / tracking, we will still count the click.
Instagram’s external link tool: Obviously Zuck(erberg) doesn’t want you to leave Instagram, so they kick up as much fuss as possible when you click an external link. Warnings that you are leaving the platform are the biggest hurdle for affiliates, but Instagram actually pre-loads the destination and classes it as a click before the user gets to the destination. This means whilst the user may have clicked, they might decide not to continue and then we still count the click.
You can view the actual number of clicks inside My Links. Just go to:
A pop-up will open with all of your link statistics:
