How to send gifts to affiliates on Avelon

Gifting is a new feature that allows you to gift affiliates with gift cards and store credit within the Avelon ecosystem. These gifts allow affiliates to checkout on their owns terms and purchase their own product – without you ever having to leave your Dashboard. 

There are multiple types of gifting within the Avelon ecosystem:

  1. Gift cards – affiliate redeems a code at the checkout (one-off and repeating)
  2. Store credit – affiliate email is automatically assigned store credit (one-off and repeating)

Please note: Gift cards are available on all plans, but Store credit is for Shopify Plus users only. Shopify does not allow Basic, Grow or Advanced plans to create store credit for their customers. We recommend using Gift Cards if you use Basic, Grow or Advanced Shopify plans. 

To access the gifting ecosystem, you must have:

  1. The Avelon Shopify app connected to your account (updated to v3.0)
  2. Admin access to your Avelon account. Users with basic User access must request Admin access from their Admin panel

How to gain access to gifting

To gain access to gifting on Avelon, you’ll need to request access to the gifting bolt on. Gifting is not accessible immediately and must be added to your account.

Just drop your Account Manager an email and they can release gifting to your account.

If your dashboard has the gifting tab (example below), then you have access to gifting:

How to create gift cards for affiliates

You can produce gift cards for affiliates in two ways;

  1. Via the gifting tab (best for bulk gifting)
  2. Via the affiliates profile

Gift cards via the gifting tab

Updated May 2026: Gifting is now available in bulk. You can select multiple approved affiliates at once when gifting. Avelon can now create and send all gift cards at one time.
  1. Click Create gift card
  2. Select the affiliate from the dropdown box
  3. Enter required information (amount ((required)) and expiration date (optional)
  4. Click Send

The affiliate will be notified both in the platform and via email and your Gifting tab will update with the relevant information. 

You can view whether the affiliate has used their gift card and how much is remaining by clicking ‘view details’ next to the gift card on their Profile. 

Gift cards via the affiliates profile

  1. Search for the affiliate via your My Affiliates tab
  2. Scroll down to Gifting
  3. Click Create gift card
  4. Enter required information (amount ((required)) and expiration date (optional)
  5. Click Send

If the pop-up asks to select an email address, it is because the affiliate has multiple emails tied to their accounts. 

The affiliate will be notified both in the platform and via email and your Gifting tab will update with the relevant information. 

You can view whether the affiliate has used their gift card and how much is remaining by clicking ‘view details’ next to the gift card on their Profile. 

What does the gift card email look like?

The gift card email comes from:

  1. The Avelon email address – this has basic Avelon branding
  2. Shopify’s gift card email system – this has all your branding on and you can adjust what it looks like directly in Shopify

Can I view previous gift cards I have given the affiliate?

Yes – either go to the affiliates profile and click View gifts, or go to the Gifting tab and search via the affiliates name.

Can I set an expiry date for gift cards?

Yes – just set the expiry date in the expiry date field. The affiliate will be shown this expiry date but also notified 12-hours before the gift card expires.

Can I cancel a gift card after it has been created?

Yes – you can cancel a gift card by clicking ‘Details’ and then click ‘Expire’. 

This will expire the gift card immediately. The affiliate will be notified of this.

If I remove an affiliate from my program, will their gift card expire?

No – you will need to expire the affiliate’s gift card manually if you remove an affiliate from your program.

Can I provide a gift card to a publisher?

No. Gift cards are specifically for content creators, ambassadors, podcasts and influencers. This is because publishers have editorial teams and product seeding is a different process to gifting.

How to create store credit for affiliates

You can gift store credit as a one-off gift, in bulk or repeat at a cadence that suits you. 

Repeat gifting is useful for merchants that have ambassadors and want to automate repeating gifts for consumable products such as nutrition or clothing – but it can be useful for all merchant types.

You can create store credit in two ways;

  1. Via the gifting tab, or
  2. Via the affiliates profile

Store credit via the gifting tab

  1. Click Add store credit
  2. Select the affiliate from the dropdown box
  3. Enter required information (amount ((required)) and expiration date (optional)
  4. Click Send

The affiliate will be notified both in the platform and via email and your Gifting tab will update with the relevant information. 

You can view whether the affiliate has used their store credit and how much is remaining by clicking ‘view gifts’ on their Profile, or via the gifting tab.
