Why do I need to post an affiliate link or discount code?

Posting an affiliate link allows us (Avelon) to track the user who has clicked your link until they make a purchase. If you post about a brand and don’t provide an affiliate link, then we (Avelon) have no way to tell where the potential purchaser has come from – and therefore would have no way to attribute the sale back to you.

The same applies for a discount code. If you do not post the discount code that has been assigned to you, then we have no way to tell if the sale should be attributed to you.Β

Not all brands provide discount codes, by the way. If there’s no discount code assigned to your profile, then don’t post a generic discount code you find on their website – it won’t get attributed to you.Β

What do affiliate links look like?

Affiliate links look a little different to regular links. This is because they require a redirect to an external server to drop a cookie on the user clicking on the link.Β When you post an affiliate link on social media, it’s usually behind a sticker or a button. This means the user does not see the affiliate link and just clicks a button.

Avelon affiliate links look like this:

https://albion.avln.me/c/flsvJwUUUUoT

  • https:// – this indicates a link is secure and encrypted. It means there can be no security hiccups and ensures everyone’s data is secure and protected
  • albion.avln.me – this is the Avelon server redirect. The name of the retailer/brand/merchant is the first name. In this instance, we’re using an Albion affiliate link so the name at the front is Albion
  • /c/flsvJwUUUUoT – this is a random string, otherwise known as a UUID

Please note: any tampering with the affiliate link will result in missed tracking. Removing a letter or a number from any of the end of the URL will remove all tracking capabilities. It is important that you do not change any of the links structure.
