Cancelling an affiliate agreement
Cancelling an affiliate agreement, or terminating your affiliate partnership with a specific affiliate is simple to do, but we recommend reading this article to understand the ‘cooldown’ period and what that means for commissions that are due.
If you no longer want to work with an affiliate any more, all you have to do is cancel your agreement. Once you cancel your agreement, your relationship will enter the cooldown period whereby any outstanding commissions will become due and all clicks from that affiliates affiliate links will no longer be liable for due commissions outside of the affiliate window.
A scenario of this is below:
Brand A has a 30-day attribution window for all affiliate sales. They terminate the agreement with the affiliate on 10th November 2024. The last sale Brand A can expect to be attributed to this specific affiliate is the 10th December 2024.
How to cancel an affiliate agreement
To cancel an affiliate agreement, just go to My Affiliates and press the Deny button next to the affiliates name. The affiliate will be sent an email notifying them that your agreement has been cancelled from this moment on but all commissions due within the current billing cycle will be paid, alongside any commissions due from active cookies within the attribution window.
What happens when I click Deny?
When you click Deny, our system will immediately stop dropping cookies on any user that clicks one of their affiliate links. This means any traffic that is being driven by link clicks after you press Deny will not be liable for any sales or commissions due.
However, the ‘cooldown period’ means any active cookies that are still live will be liable for any commission for the entire period. The cooldown period is the attribution window you set when you joined Avelon. For example, if you have a 30-day attribution window then you will be liable for any sales/commissions due over the next 30-days for that specific affiliate.
Do I need to delete the affiliates discount code?
No, you will not be required to delete the affiliates discount code when you terminate their agreement. As soon as you have denied their agreement, the promo code will no longer be attributable.
If you delete the discount code from our system, it will erase all data sync’d to that discount code. You will still be able to view the discount code related sales in the Export Sales button in your Dashboard, but you will not see it in your live data in your Dashboard. We do not recommend deleting a discount code.
Do I still have to pay the commission if I terminate the agreement?
Yes, you are still liable for the commissions attributed when you terminate the affiliate agreement. Any commissions earned in the cooldown period are outside of the termination and are still applicable.
